Curriculum Humanities (History and Geography)
Curriculum Intent:
Education is journey. Reflecting on this, in History and Geography we start from where the pupil is. Learning is therefore personalised to each individual to allow them all to flourish. To enable all to achieve, the learning environment needs to be stimulating and happy. We thrive to make every lesson exciting, where the inquisitive nature of our pupils has no ceiling.
History and Geography have equal coverage in key stage 3 and is delivered through a rolling programme. This allows us to dive deeper into the topics and explore in a way where we can be creative and match the learning styles of everyone involved in the learning experience. At key stage 4, pupils can pick History or Geography (or even both) and we steer them on a learning journey that is match to the needs of their learning.
If it be History or Geography, learning can look very different, and we enjoy taking learning outside of the classroom through fieldwork, educational visits and other interactive experiences. We are also lucky enough to have an amazing group of experts around us that can help us bring our learning alive. History and Geography help us refine skills that we not only use in our learning but also in life beyond school. We visit these skills on a rotational basis, which helps us pupils refine and develop themselves, increasing their confidence in becoming empathetic and active members of future communities.
